In early 2000, H. E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry declared the plan of Qatar Government to Qatarize 50% of the workforce in the oil and gas industrial sector. That initiative obviously brought Qatarization to the forefront aa a top priority for the subject companies.

In Q-Chem we have looked at such a mandate for Qatarization as the “Right thing to do” in support of the Qatari community and have converted this into a “Value” of our company and a top “Strategic Goal”. This has enabled us to project that Q-Chem is fully committed to the Qatarization efforts and not only from a mere percentage standpoint, but rather from a true value added and quality standpoint that will drive us to plan and develop strong and long-term leadership from our Qatari workforce.

Because of being a Value and Strategic Goal in Q-Chem, most employees are engaged to some extent in our Qatarization efforts which along with the strong support of our senior management, aligns us with the Qatar government goal to reach a minimum of 50% of our work force as Qatari nationals.

In terms of the actual practice and implementation of such goals, every Qatari National that joins Q-Chem is provided with a tailor made development plan to help the individual focus on reaching his/her goal in a timely and effective manner. The plan is consistent of learning / career development and progression milestones and includes a targeted goal position which provides the aim for the development. Such plans also provide for mentors to facilitate and guide the individuals in achieving such important career goals and all care is taken to help the individual approaches the goal position on or before the end date of the plan.

In addition to such focused on the job development, part of the long-term initiative to attract national workforce is to provide alternative options for committed non senior level nationals to enrol participation for further education in respected institutions providing career opportunities for these hardworking Qatari’s to aspire reaching senior positions.

 Another initiative is that the under-graduate sponsorship programme; this is an effective tool in developing nationals to undertake key positions across the organisation after graduation.

Furthermore, the company offers internship and summer-work programmes for nationals during these annual periods to allow the nationals exposure and to have a feeling for what Q-Chem is all about and provide then with the necessary criterion for decision making in pursuing permanent placement with us later on after their graduation.
