Qatar Career Fair 2009 got under way at Doha Exhibition Centre on April 12. Opened by HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the five-day fair aimed to offer Qatari students a window of recruitment, training, and sponsorship opportunities. More than 100 leading Qatari companies, financial institutions, universities and multi-national establishments operating in the state are taking part in the fair. (read more)
The country’s energy sector offers unique structured career opportunities for Qataris, the Deputy Premier HE Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah said. Structured career opportunities have been developed over many years, Al-Attiyah said at the 5th annual Qatarization Review Meeting of the Energy and Industry sector yesterday. Al-Attiyah thanked various educational institutions in the country and government ministries and agencies for their support of the Strategic Qatarization Plan. Al-Attiyah honored three companies at the sector’s first annual Qatarization awards presentation. Qatar Shell GTL (for supporting Qatarization) and Q-Chem (support for training and development).
“Without your support we could not have achieved our objectives,” Al-Attiyah noted.
Ahmed al-Emadi, general manager, Qatar Chemical Company (Q-Chem), who spoke on behalf of 38 companies participating in the sector’s Strategic
Qatarization Plan, said the number of nationals working in the sector companies rose by 1,524 to 8,301 last year.
These are Qatar Petroleum (for support and liaison with the education sector), The meeting, held at the Ritz-Carlton was attended by a number
of dignitaries including HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of State for Energy and Industry, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor Al-Thani, director
general, General Secretariat for Development Planning and Prof Sheikha Al-Misnad, president, Qatar University;
In his report, Al-Emadi said,
“in a growing economy like ours, there is a limited supply of Qatari human resources both at the university graduate and vocational levels.
This is due to the country’s business expansion and the increased demand for Qataris to take up various positions that have been created in view
of this. Many companies in the energy and industry sector have highlighted the limited supply of Qatari human resources as the number one
challenge they faced.”
Despite this, he said, the companies have continued their strong liaison with Qatar’s education community and have
participated in many career fairs. They have also introduced many initiatives to attract, retain and develop Qatari talent. Sheikh Hamad spoke
on the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030, with emphasis on the human development pillar - one of the four pillars of the QNV.
He said GSDP was
coordinating and leading the preparatory work of Qatar’s first National Development Strategy, which will provide a framework for national
development, prioritize public sector programmes and policies, and strengthen public sector institutions and implementation capacity.
At the morning session, Prof Al-Misnad spoke on the continuing support of Qatar University to the energy and industry sector. She also highlighted
the challenges being faced in meeting the labor market demands.
Essa R. Al-Kaabi, chairman of the Energy and Industry Sector’s Qatarization
Steering Committee, Francoise Gerdil-Neuillet, vice president (Human Resources Development), Total E&P, Paris and Kate Sweetman, a Boston-based
international consultant were among those who spoke.
Hamad Al-Muhannadi, RasGas Operations Manager chaired and moderated the afternoon’s
proceedings. An open forum was also held.
With the recent 2008 CPC President Safety Award, the Qatarization achievement award is yet another
important historical performance for Q-Chem. Heartfelt congratulation to all Q-Chem staff for this wonderful achievement.
Qatar University (QU) and Qatar Chemical Company (Q-Chem) announced on Thursday 18 June the winners of the Protective Workwear for Women Design Competition. The winners and participants were awarded appreciation plaques and certificates. (read more)
The yearly Qatari town hall meeting which involves Q-Chem management and the all nationals. The meeting will be held early in October.
